Quilt backing calculator · formula-review preview
Know what your backing answer depends on.
The calculator is being checked against real quilt cases before it recommends what to buy. Join the early preview and tell us the width, overage and labels you want to see clearly.
What the free result will show
Fabric & panel choice
The selected fabric width, intended finished quilt size and which way panels are joined.
Cut plan
The number of panels, required cut length and a visual check before you head to the shop.
Formula & assumptions
Seam allowance and extra length are named, adjustable and never concealed behind a paywall.
Common starting point
Bring these four measurements.
- Finished quilt width and length. Use the finished top size, not the block size.
- Your backing fabric width. Common choices are 42, 44, 54 and 108 inches.
- Extra length / overage. This needs to be explicit, not assumed.
- Whether a seam or panel orientation changes the plan. The result should make that visible.

We will send the formula-reviewed preview to a small group. In the invite, you can use your own dimensions and tell us whether the explanation is clear enough to buy fabric from.
The future calculator result is free. Saving a project, linked recalculation and printable shopping lists are planned paid features.
